Math 1010: Fall Semester 2015 (Online)
Linear functions can be found everywhere in the field of Business, particularly in sales and/or merchandising. It’s important to understand the rate of change with those sorts of applications in order to cut cost, ensure money isn’t wasted, and to maximize investment potential. When considering how this project relates to other classes I have taken, my GPA is determined on a linear function, or an average calculation of the grades I have received through the years I have gone to SLCC. I enjoy doing linear functions because I am applying the math I’ve learned to real-life situations. The formulas are easier to remember when I have a purpose to what I’m computing. The following file is a project I did this semester. I mapped out Utah's population, as well as what's to be expected in the future, based on population increase each year. Population isn't the best example for linear functions; population increase depends on various aspects in life and culture, but it was a fun project to do none-the-less.
